First-time software and content installation
This article outlines the system requirements and installation process for an offline instance of Ocean Learning Platform (OLP).
This USB installer includes the Ocean Learning Platform software and all associated learning content required for installation.
The installation process must be completed twice using the same USB installer.
- The first run installs the Ocean Learning Platform software.
- The second run installs the Ocean Learning Platform eLearning content.
All steps must be followed to ensure a successful installation.
Content versioning
The learning content provided on this USB reflects the latest available version at the time the USB was prepared. As learning content is updated regularly and made available via downloadable packages, newer versions may be available through download links than those included on this USB.
To ensure your installation includes the most up-to-date learning content, please contact Support to request the latest available download links.
If your full database has not been updated, or if any eLearning modules are missing following installation, please contact Support. They will assist you by providing access to the appropriate individual eLearning module download links.

1.1 Hardware requirements
- Memory (RAM): Minimum 8GB; 16GB or more recommended
- CPU: 64 bit Intel or AMD x64 processor, 2.0GHz or faster
- Storage:
- Minimum 512GB free disk space for content and data
- 1TB free disk space recommended
2. Software installation
- Insert the USB installer into your computer and open the USB folder.
- Double-click Ocean Installer to launch the installation application.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- During installation, the computer may reboot. If the installation does not resume automatically after a restart, reopen the USB folder and double-click Ocean Installer to continue.
- The installation is complete when the Finish message is displayed.
3. Starting up your training system
- When you start the Ocean Learning Platform for the first time, you will be prompted to register your database. Enter the requested information, which can be found on your Welcome letter.
- Log in to the Ocean Learning Platform using your administrator account.
- Default username: admin
- Default password: admin - Select Activate my installation and follow the on-screen instructions. Once activation is complete, close the Ocean Learning Platform.
- You will receive an email titled “Ocean Learning Platform Activation”, which includes an attached import file.
- Delivery of this email may take several hours. - Transfer the attached file to the computer on which the Ocean Learning Platform is installed.
- Log in again using your administrator account and select Import data.
- Click Browse, select the received .nft file, and then click Finish to complete the process.
4. eLearning content installation
- If the USB installer has been removed, reinsert it into your computer and open the USB folder.
- Double-click Ocean Installer to launch the application.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. When you reach the Choose components screen, select Ocean Service Pack (enabled by default) and one of the following options
- Complete content – Installs all available eLearning content
- Scope content – Installs only the modules included in your subscription - Continue following the on-screen instructions until the installation is complete.
5. How to start training
- To enable crew training, the administrator must request user IDs from the main database and assign users to the vessel installation with their service records. Instructions can be found in the Vessel Administrator Quick Guide (page 2).
- The software installer includes Quick Guides to support system administration and use. These guides are located in: \Quick guides
This folder contains Quick Guides for On Board Administrators and Personnel, along with other
role specific instructions.
6. Using the software on a network
When a computer running the Ocean Learning Platform is connected to your network, the platform can be accessed from other computers via a web browser.
- Open a web browser via the other computer.
Enter the following address in the address bar:
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080/start/Replace xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx with the server’s static IP address or host name
(for example: http://123.567.123.456:8080/start/)
