Company Ranks

In Compas, this feature can be found through: Admin | General | Ranks.

As well as Standard Ranks, we also have Company Ranks in Compas. These ranks are company specific based upon the requirements of a company.

A company may have several different ranks for crew that hold the same qualification. For example, crew holding a Chief Officer (unlimited) licence, could have one of the following ranks, Chief Officer, First Officer or Chief Mate, depending upon the operations of the company and the requirements of the company’s clients. Each of these Chief Officer ranks, will need to be listed as a Company Rank.

All payroll, movement and contract operations in Compas are based on Company Ranks.

Configuring Company Ranks

Company Ranks are maintained by clients under ADMIN/GENERAL/RANKS. A sample list will be provided by Compas which the client can add to or delete as required.dd8f519a-7bdc-4245-acbe-44ebbe595195.png

  1. Can export list of ranks and all rank permissions.
  2. Click :thin_green_cross: add to Company Ranks, add new rank box will open.39ec24c6-eed6-400a-8f71-8d36294d4b9f.png
    1. Code - Code for the Company Rank. Compas will check if the code has already been used. Spaces are not allowed, maximum of five characters. This is a required field and unlike the other fields, once saved, the code cannot be changed.
    2. Description - Description of Company Rank. This is a required field.
    3. Groupage - Drop down list from the Library RANK GROUPAGE (Officers, Ratings etc)
    4. Dept - Drop down list from the Library RANK DEPARTMENTS (Deck, Engine, Catering etc)
    5. Sorting - Will determine where in the list of Company Ranks the particular rank will be. Best done in groups of 10 e.g. Master 10, Chief Officer 20 etc. This gives opportunity to slot other ranks with Master qualification in between Master and Chief Officer
    6. Level - This drop-down list is hard coded and used to determine crew duties level. Based on the levels of CDE’s.
    7. Countable - If rank is to be included in crew headcount and various other headcount reports
    8. Obsolete - if rank is marked as obsolete, this rank will no longer be available to be used in a movement. Obsolete ranks will have a :cancel: icon.
    9. Remarks - can be added for example, date rank marked as obsolete and why
  3. Can amend Company Rank by clicking the :Pencil: icon
  4. Can delete a Company Rank by clicking the :Delete: icon. However, once a Company rank has been used, it cannot be deleted therefore the :Delete: icon will not show against that rank. Once a used rank is no longer applicable, it can only be marked as obsolete.

Company Rank Permissions

All Company Ranks have the same permissions tree as Compas users, and these permissions need to be configured. This configuration will determine what each rank can see and do in Crew Self Service, and also what they can see and do when they log into Compas Onboard.fbad1c74-1913-4174-a19b-35d5c008b419.png

This authorisation will of course be limited by the permissions given to the rank.a39dbd4f-5282-4a0a-92d0-cf47886251f4.png

Rank Equivalence

As it is Standard Ranks and not Company Ranks that are used in Qualification Matrices, Compliance Checks and Standard Manning, Company Ranks must be mapped to Standard Ranks in Compas, this is done under the Rank Equivalence Matrix ADMIN/MATRICES/RANK EQUIVALENCE MATRIX. If a Company Rank is not mapped to a Standard Rank, that Company Rank will not be included in any qualification matrix or compliance check.
