We’re excited to announce the latest content update to the Ocean Learning Platform.

This release introduces a brand-new Dual Fuel Advanced course, designed to deepen your knowledge and enhance your skills in this critical area.

In addition, we’ve made updates and bug fixes to existing courses to improve your learning experience.

New content

Dual Fuel Advanced 
Course ID: 0750 | v1 
This advanced course expands upon the introductory dual fuel training, providing enhanced technical and operational understanding of Fuel Oil and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) systems used in the maritime and industrial sectors.

With LNG dual fuel technology is expected to continue as a leading fuel option for the next 5 to 10 years, the course highlights safe operational practices, system fundamentals, and maintenance requirements to facilitate compliant and efficient dual fuel operations.

Updated content

Marine Environmental Awareness, Environmental Challenges 

Course ID: 0277 | v6 
Corrected the drag and drop timeline for "Foamed Plastic Cups" and "Aluminium Cans," which were displaying inaccurate decomposition years in Chapter 5, Page 5.

Common Bulk Cargoes, Grain

Course ID: 0342.04 | v2 
Amendment  to the text in Chapter 1, Page 4, changing "I.M.S.B.C.,Code" to "I.M.S.B.C. Code," and changing "chapter 4" to "Part 4" in Chapter 1, Page 5.

Supplementary content has been included concerning the updates related to the International Grain Code in Chapter 2, Page 8.

SOPEP

Course ID: 0358| v7 
Revised the Oil Tanker accordion in Lesson 3 ("Pollution Emergency Plans") to clarify that vessels exceeding 400 GT are required to possess a Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP).

Amended the question "Which vessels are mandated to carry a SOPEP?" in the assessment to incorporate vessels over 400 gross tonnage among the options.

Drug and alcohol policy and testing

Resolved the assessment question "A ship operator is interested in implemented a drug-free ship program. Which of the following are elements that could help ensure a successful program? (Select all applicable options)" by turning it into a Multiple response question allowing the intended interaction.

Updated categorisation of Garbages in Chapter 1, Page 18.

The assessment has been updated to display 10 questions rather than 3.

Fire Fighting Equipment and Maintenance

Update to include banning of Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) in Chapter 3, Page 38.

Prevention and Response to Violence and Harassment  
Course ID: 0900 | v2

The support email for Safer Waves has been corrected from support@safersaves.org to support@saferwaves.org in both "Lesson 1: Identifying sexual assault and sexual harassment" and "Lesson 18: Summary".

Two questions in the assessment pool have been revised:

  1. The term 'involve' has been removed from the answer option in the question "Sexual assault is not:".
  2. The answer options for the question "When making a report of sexual harassment or sexual assault, it is important to include the time and date, location, who was involved and what was done or said" have been simplified to "True" or "False".
