Create a Training Matrix

Your training matrix is more than a compliance requirement—it’s a reflection of your values, your priorities, and your commitment to the people who power your operations.

When built and managed with care, it becomes a strategic advantage: guiding learning, improving performance, and supporting a stronger, safer, and more resilient fleet.

In setting up your training matrix, there are essential steps to make sure your training supports your objectives:

  1. Specify the required training resources for each rank, including the number of titles and their validity periods. Validity periods can vary per title. (12, 24 ,36 48 months or once)
  2. Aim for the learning content to be minimal and most relevant for each role in your organisation
  3. Consult internal stakeholders and your training provider to help you
  4. Review and update your training materials regularly
  5. Check your training performance data and plan actions based on the insights you find
  6. Carry out regular assessments of your training matrix to measure its effectiveness

The result is a training programme that stays aligned with your operational goals, reflects the reality of life at sea, and shows crews that learning is something done for them, not just to them.

Once your Training Matrix is ready to implement, please send to support@oceantg.com who will configure this into your OLP database.
